PURPOSE OF THE WORKSHOP
The purpose of the workshop is to show and discuss key recent advances and progress in Photoacoustic & Photothermal (PA/PT) techniques as applied to biomedical, nanoscale, nondestructive evaluation and testing of materials, and thermophysical phenomena and technologies which has been the main theme of the biennial series of courses organized at EMFCSC since 2010. This seventh workshop will bring together natural and biomedical scientists, engineers, technology developers and users who are interested and/or involved in principles and applications of PA/PT. The wealth of present-day PA/PT topics indicates that this field has developed a broad range of tools for fundamental and applied research. PA/PT research has reached a mature state, firmly established as a non-destructive measurement and materials characterization technology on the macro- and nano-scale, as well as a non-invasive biomedical imaging modality. Future progress will be seamlessly linked to close synergy with advances in new laser and detector technologies. The workshop emphasizes the explosive growth of biomedical PA, and will focus on the growing biophotoacoustic and emerging biophotothermal imaging modalities and their applications around the world and in Europe, in particular. It also emphasizes the significant and growing contributions of PA/PT to the non-destructive evaluation / characterization of nanoscale, opto-electronic, and other advanced materials. Participants are strongly encouraged to present their own results in the field.
NEW EVENT - INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
The International School: "Basic Photothermal and Photoacoustic Techniques: Theory, Instrumentation and Application" is organized within the framework of the Graduate Program in Environmental Sciences, offered by the Graduate School of the University of Nova Goriza, in cooperation with EMFCSC. The International School will be held in Erice, Italy during the period from SEPTEMBER 24th to OCTOBER 1st, 2023 with none additional fees. The International School is intended for students at graduate level, who have research and future professional interests in photothermal instrumental techniques and related issues. Participants will have the opportunity to intensively interact with an international team of experts in the field of photothermal and photoacoustic science, and to present and discuss their study and research interests. We have invited top scientists and lecturers from universities all over the world, who will offer lectures in the areas of photoacoustic and photothermal techniques and instrumentation, such as: Thermal Lens Spectroscopy, Photothermal Beam Deflection Spectroscopy, Photoacoustic Phenomena, Infrared Radiometry, Non Destructive Evaluation & Testing, Biomedical and Biological PA & PT Application, Gas Sensing via QEPAS. The International School will be organized as a series of intensive lectures and case study presentations with compulsory attendance to lectures of Seventh International Workshop in Photoacoustic & Photothermal Phenomena and presentation of participants’ own papers.
Participants will earn 10 ECTS credits for completion of the International School, after their final evaluation.
The International School is organized together with
University of Nova Gorica, and directed by Prof. M. Franko and
by Prof. D. Korte
