School of Photonics 2016:
"Plasmonics and Nano-Optics"
July 10th-14th, 2016
Cortona, Italy
The aim of the Cortona School
of Plasmonics and Nano-Optics is to bring
together early-career scientists in the field
of photonics, interested in the study of light
at the nanoscale to present and discuss the
latest research and future directions of the
field in an open atmosphere, and help
developing the community of plasmonics and
nano-optics.
Topics include:
Theoretical
introduction: basics of plasmonics and
nano-scale light matter interactions.
Hyperbolic
metamaterials
Current
hot topics
Biosensing
(SERS, SEIRA, integrated devices)
Extreme
field enhancement: nonlinear effects,
chirality, superchirality
Novel
plasmonic phenomena in van der Waals
heterostructures
The School
featured a number of lessons from leading
international scientists of the respective
fields and is open to Ph.D. and Post-Docs.
Participants were all encouraged to submit
abstracts of their own research to be presented
as posters. Few abstracts were allowed as short
oral contribution. Attendance is limited to 65
participants.
The extended registration
deadline expired on April 25th,
2016. Few places available on a
first-come-first-served basis by contacting
us directly by email.
The school of photonics in Cortona was hosted
for the first time in 2013 by the Scuola
Normale Superiore on the initiative of Miriam
Serena Vitiello and Alessandro Tredicucci from
CNR and in collaboration with SIOF. Given the
success and the large enthusiastic
participation, SIOF decided to make this
school a regular event of its own, with a
different topic and a different Chair each
time.
This year the school is chaired by Alessandro
Belardini of Sapienza Università di
Roma, Paolo Biagioni of Politecnico di Milano,
Riccardo Sapienza of King's College London.
